Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I really enjoy the classes I have been taking. The teachers I've had fill their classes with a lot of information so it can be hard to handle at times, but many of the classes offer SI sessions where you can go and get extra help from a student who just recently took the class. Sometimes it can be hard to understand the teacher that are from India because of their accent, that makes it hard for some to be able to learn. Most of the time the teachers want to help you out or answer questions if you have any so don't be afraid to ask questions. Dr. Talaty for Chemistry is the best. Don't ever take Anatomy and Microbiology in the same semester or pharmacology and phathophysiology its madness.
Am enjoying being here I gave WSU a 5 because I am involved in a sorority on campus and that helps so much. You really love college more when you can feel like you belong and you aren't just one in the crowd. Because when you go from a high school where everyone knows you to a college that is so much bigger than what you are use to it really helps to get involved. Sororities aren't the only way that you can get involved and WSU is great about offering many clubs and organizations and just things to do while you are on campus.
Bang for the buck I'm not really sure what this means. Ya I think I get my money's worth but that could be because I take advantage of all the opportunity that the school has. But obviously I need more buck because I am filling out things for scholarships.
Tips for prospective students Befriend your teaches. Especially when you are in large class. It really helps them to put a name to a face when they are going through grading papers.
Great for these types of students I think WSU is great for all types of students because it offeres so many different types of class and ways to take your class. It isn't all just the typical college lecture class. And also it is a great college for all different ages. WSU is considered a commuter college because there are so many people coming back to college that have already been married and had children. It isn't the typical campus.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Wichita State University has some of the best teachers and professors I have ever met. With very few exceptions I am able to understand all of them with acceptable to superb degrees, and all of them know their stuff much better than they would ever need to for what they are teaching.
Am enjoying being here I love the atmosphere, the campus is huge and beautiful, the students are amazing and the organizations are absolutely wonderful if you get involved with them.
Bang for the buck Wichita State University is NOT cheap, but neither is their services or what they offer. It is good money well spent for good outcome so long as you apply yourself.
Tips for prospective students Work on your general education requirements in the fall and your major in the spring, take any other classes that you failed/dropped/need in the summer!
Great for these types of students Students who like to study at school, who spend all day at school, who party occasionally and who like medium sized environments.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I really like the classes I am taking. All of them teach me so much. The teachers try to do classwork that suits all different learners so that they all have a chance to learn. All of my teachers/ professors love answering questions that I have. I'm not afraid to speak up in class to either answer or ask questions or just to speak my mind.
Am enjoying being here I love being on campus. The campus is always so clean and there is always something going on. Most of the people are very friendly and say hey as you walk by and smile. Everything here revolves around the student center. It's a fun place to go, lots of good food, and it's also where you can pick up some Shocker gear to show your pride.
Bang for the buck The teachers are great and so are the facilities. It's deffinitely got more Bang for the buck!
Great for these types of students Wichita State is great for any type of student. We have such a diverse student community that I find it amazing. We have all types of different ethnicities and religions and not just that, but all the students are different and unique in their own ways.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences the teachers are very diverse, you may end up with a very helpful one or one you may not be able to understand. i love the campus, it is beautiful! the student center is also very nice.
Tips for prospective students arrive early, it takes a while to find a parking spot. also try to enroll as soon as possible, classes fill up fast.
Academic Rigor the classes i've been in this semester, so far, have been easier than expected.
Dorm Life i'm still in high school, i'm just taking 12 credit hours this semester through an early release program at my school. will probably do dorms next semester.
Food and Dining so many choices!
What to do for fun anything! wichita is an amazing city!

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Strong engineering and business programs. Great endowment. Urban opportunities, especially for co-opts and internships.
Tips for prospective students Attend scholarship competitions. It will let see a lot of the campus and interact with students and faculty. Some of the competitions even give full-ride scholarships for winners.
Academic Rigor Intensity varies by professor, but generally ranges on the easier side of things. Some professors are demonic though. Harder in engineering than most other majors.
Dorm Life Pretty average. Dorms are very close to campus and host ~1000 students. Cost is pretty high in comparison to tuition though.
Food and Dining A fair number of options near campus, mostly cheap fast-food. A food-court in the student center contains a sub shop, Pizza Hut, Chick Fil-As, Taco Bell, a couple of Asian places, and a general food stand. There is a coffee place in the library and another sub shop on campus as well.
What to do for fun Fraternities/Sororities like every other college. Also, great basketball atmosphere, some opportunities to get involved in the music programs, and everything urban life offers. The student council does a good job of setting up a lot of events that range from great to 'meh'.
Bang for the buck Tuition is EXTREMELY low, even for a public 4-year. A full 4 years will cost you about $51,000, which is less than a lot of school's charge for a single year of tuition. Room and board are more expensive ($2000-4000 per semester), though local apartments can be cheap ($300 per month).
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Hippodrome is an annual event in its 84th year that has a lot of student interest. It is now a week-long affair with multiple events (the original had wrestling and boxing matches). The main event, however, are skit performances, which are written, choreographed, and performed by student groups.
Great for these types of students Wichita State is great for prospective engineers, foreign students, and non-traditional students. The engineering program has a terrific endowment and a ton of opportunities to gain work experience, and is one the best in the nation in aeronautics. Foreign students will be impressed with the number of nationalities represented and the general size of the foreign student population, while non-traditional students will like the number of night classes.
Clubs and Activities There are a lot of student body organizations, both for specific fields and for the general student body. For instance, engineers have teams that build and drive race cars, and there are a couple of groups on campus that fly planes. The Student Activities Council is always a great organization to join, and do something about every week.
Greek Life Members of the Greek communities are leaders on campus (both the student government president and vice-president are Greek members). There are roughly 600 fraternity and sorority members on campus, and 21 different organizations. Out of the those, about 50 students averaged a 4.00, and 4 organizations had 10% of their members average a 4.00.
Campus Safety The campus has a large, full-time police force on its grounds. It also has a campus wide emergency phone system. The university police department also posts complete crime statistics online and issues alerts about possible threats.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Wichita State University is a four year college that is placed within the ever-growing city of Wichita, Kansas. It has a great set of dorm rooms for oncoming freshman, but most students choose to commute since WSU is so close to everything. The best thing about WSU is the fact that they have a program that any student can join, and the school will set the student up to do real-life work in jobs they want to work in, they do all this before the student graduates.
Tips for prospective students Tips for prospective students is to get an advisor that is within your intended major. If you don't know what you want to do, any advisor will do. But as soon as you figure out what you want to major in, change advisers accordingly. All advisers at WSU are good, but some might overlook something that is needed for your degree if they are not a professor within that major.
Academic Rigor Most students will take no more than 12-15 hours a semester because they classes challenge everyone.
Dorm Life We have multiple options for on-campus living. The quality of our dorms are pretty great.
Food and Dining Wichita State University has great food. Our dining hall is always packed because the dorm cafeteria serves great food that feels like a home cooked meal. The student center offers a wide variety of fast food restaurants for students on the go.
What to do for fun At Wichita State University, the student center is the place to be. There are always events like concerts, comedians, and magic shows going on. And if those events don't interest you, downstair in the student center there is a full size bowling alley that has a bar and pool!
Bang for the buck Wichita State is at least half the cost of the two other four year universities in Kansas. All three school are very comparable in every way.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Traditions on Campus are events that Greek throw. Things like Hippodrome and Walk A Mile In Her Shoes.
Great for these types of students Students who want to go to a four year university but don't want to leave the hometown feeling.
Campus Safety Although our campus is located within a safe area, our campus is covered all over with emergency buttons.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The classes are challenging and make you think about and apply what you are learning currently or have learned in the past. The teachers are involved and will help you with any questions you have or if you need the subject matter clarified. Working in groups is something that you will encounter quite often, which is good because you get to work with people that you might not have the chance to work with otherwise.
Am enjoying being here The campus is lively and there is always something to do. There are many options and way for people to get to know other people and to get involved on campus. Once I became involved on campus, I felt so comfortable with being here. Everybody is friendly and very welcoming.
Bang for the buck Classes are expensive to me. However, they are cheaper than the other universities in Kansas, according to the research I have done. Fees are expensive too, but they do include things such as parking passes for those who live in the dorms and entrance into the Heskett Center.
Tips for prospective students Go on a campus visit! This will definitely help with the anxiety of not knowing campus. Form a relationship with an Admissions Counselor or any faculty or staff member on campus, therefore, if you are having problems or have questions, you have a trusted person to seek advice. Join organizations! Joining an organization of any kind will help you get to know people and form long-lasting relationships.
Great for these types of students This university is great for student who love to work in groups in the classroom, loving living in a big city, and have a sense of adventure! There are so many things to go on campus and even more things to do off-campus! Being able to live in a city that is not only a college town is a great benefit because you will be able to build relationships with business people around the city.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot As a freshman I have been taking a lot of general eduacation courses. To me these are review courses of what you have already learned in high school. I can't wait to start taking the courses that are more focused on my major because I feel like I will be learning so much more (and I will be able to give WSU five stars instead of four). Not only are the professors there to help you but they challenge you to think about their subjects in different ways.
Am enjoying being here I love the environment on campus!! Everyone is happy (even though it is school). I have not ran into a single person who was rude or mean. You cannot tell the separation of classes, what I mean by this is that freshman are not looked at as the low man on the totem pole. There are programs such as SI to go to for help when you are struggling on a subject.
Bang for the buck I don't think anyone could be happy about college tuition costs. Schooling is expensive these days. However it is nice that all athletic events are free to students, and there are many events on campus that are also free. I believe if you attend many of these events you will get a lot more bang for the buck.
Tips for prospective students Don't be afraid to break out of your shell! I have always been a shy person. Branch out and make friends in the beginning when the college environment is new to everyone. Walk through your schedule and find your buildings before classes start: my roommate missed her first classes because she couldn't find her class. The most important thing to remember is to get your school work done first then party. It will make finals a lot less stressful. :)
Great for these types of students This college is for any type of student. It is a great place to meet people of different cultures. I went to a small farm school that had little diversity when it came to its students. When I came to WSU I got to experience other cultures which I believe is something very important in todays everyday life.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The education I have received throughout my time here at Wichita State has been great! I love all of the professors I have had in my classes and I greatly appreciate all they do for the school. Academically Wichita State is an amazing place to receive a college education.
Am enjoying being here Although the education I am receiving is wonderful, the neighborhood where the school is located is not the best. I recommend never travelling alone and always having your cell phone on and charged if you are walking to or from classes in the dark. You will never be bored here though! There is so much to do on campus and throughout Wichita that there will never be a problem finding something to entertain you.
Bang for the buck The tuition rates and room and board are very reasonable for the amount that you receive. The education as I have said is excellent and the dorms and on campus housing are very large and livable. Also the meal plans are very reasonably priced and the dining is all you can eat so there is no limit to the amount that you would like.
Tips for prospective students I recommend that prospective students come to the campus and walk around and take tours of the different buildings on campus and the different housing options as well. I also recommend tasting the food offered in the dining hall before committing to the school. Also, prospective students should be sure to thoroughly examine the school to be sure this is the school they would like to attend.
Great for these types of students Wichita State is great for students who are interested in sports and have a lot of school/team spirit. Wichita State is a very school-spirit oriented university. It is also great for students who like a diverse campus and a fast paced living environment as the school is located in a larger city.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Yes and no it really comes down to what teachers you have and how much time they are willing to help you. Just going to class is not enough, meeting with the professor after class is a must do in most classes. With doing that I learned a lot, in a wide verity of fields.
Am enjoying being here For the most part the atmosphere was great, the campus always had somthing going on. Not being in a dorm really set me back for meeting people, but once i got involved in some of the thigs WSU had to offer i meet tons of diffrent people. plus the campus was always clean and well kept.
Bang for the buck For me, it was not at all, I disliked the huge class size, it was hard to catch a chances to talk to the proffesors with any questions I my have. Although there was always a sufficient amount of things to do on campus, It was in the class room part that runined it for me.
Tips for prospective students Take time on every assignment, just because it is a 101 class does not mean you can slack off at all! Get any extra help available to you, the writing center is a great place to go for help on any paper. I know I spent several hours there. Talk to the teachers let them know that you care about your grades and they will be more willing to help you. Also get involved, this is college! I joined crew rowing and meet a tons of new people, and went to several different things on campus. You can meet people through bowling, playing pool, at the Heskett center, just put your self out there.
Great for these types of students Desire large class setting
highly active to low active

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences People are very friendly. Most of the teachers truly care and smile. A great atmosphere to earn an affordable education.
Tips for prospective students College is only as hard as you want to make it. Chose classes you can handle and learn how to manage your time well. If you can do this you will have an amazing college experience.
Academic Rigor So far i have only taken one class which was psychology. I enjoyed my professor, i felt like he made it very easy to learn. I did have to study between every class, in other words i had to earn my grade.
Dorm Life The dorms are a bit warn down. Campus life isn't all that either, but your surrounded by the Wichita community. If you want you can always join a sorority for a better experience.
Food and Dining Everything is with in walking distance. Chick-fa-la in actually on campus! Food is very diverse in the city of Wichita so that's a big plus.
What to do for fun I love to work out, it helps to relieve stress. When ever the weather permits and enough guys are free we like to get together and play soccer, either on campus or close by. On the weekends if a good movie is coming out I like to go watch it at the IMAX theater.
Bang for the buck There are many local owned business that sell some of the best food ranging from Mexican food, Arab cuisine, to your good old fashioned American cheeseburger.
Campus Safety Cops are always around and on the look out. When ever anything goes south, everyone on campus is notified through e-mails or texts.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences I would rate Wichita State as a 7 on a scale of 1-10.
Tips for prospective students It is important to attend class especially if there is a lecture, but the most affective way of doing well in college is to read and study the material in the book.
Dorm Life The dorms are pretty ugly however they allow for socialization and a better college experience
Food and Dining The food is okay, but it is rather repetitive.
What to do for fun Get involved in the student activities association and attend the events they host.
Bang for the buck The college experience is rather simple at this school. Things tend to remain pretty quiet and that makes studying rather easy.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus October fest occurs every year.
Great for these types of students It is great for students who want to major in any type of engineering due to the amount of funds provided for the program and the connections WSU has with engineering companies.
Greek Life The life is nice they are more family oriented and no hazing really occurs.
Campus Safety This campus is not very safe given the location. Recently many people have been mugged and threatened which is not a good atmosphere for students and it is not recommended to walk alone at night.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences A very complicated University. Some teachers are very good and some are horrible. Admissions has been my worst experience so far, overall it is an alright University.
Tips for prospective students Take this seriously. You are paying for your education and if you don't feel you are getting the service you deserve please say something.
Academic Rigor Some classes are very difficult with quite a bit of homework. Others are easier and enjoyable.
Dorm Life I don't live in the dorms.
Food and Dining Chick-fil-A!!!!!
What to do for fun There are many clubs and organizations to participate in. Also there is an arena on campus that houses awesome events.
Bang for the buck Less expensive than other Universities around here with the same education.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus WSU has 2 mascots. There is WuShock the traditional mascot and a Hippo named Huxley.
Great for these types of students Great for those going into Dentistry, Nursing, and Physical Therapy. However there are many other specific buildings on campus for a variety of majors.
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs to be involved in.
Greek Life I don't know much about Greek Life.
Campus Safety There are specific blue light telephones around campus at every parking lot in case of an emergency. These phones contact the security guards directly. An e-mail is then sent to all students reporting the attack or emergency so that we can be well informed.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences i think wichita state is diverse and offers lots of opportunities to the students who want them. it is a beautiful campus with lots of rich history. it has something for nearly everyone to enjoy.
Tips for prospective students new or prospective students should take the opportunities to get involved in student organizations and activities such as convocation and hippodrome to really get the most out of the school and our community spirit.
Academic Rigor i believe most classes have a good balance between the difficulty and rigor of the programs and the enjoyability of the classroom setting. i have yet to have a professor who was unenjoyable and didn't have pertinent knowledge to pass along.
Dorm Life i haven't lived in the dorms.
Food and Dining there are many dining options and the rhatigan student center is about to be upgraded with more opportunities for the students.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences i believe that wichita state has done an excellent job with creating a great college atmosphere that is conductive to learning. i do, however, disagree with their grading scales using the plus minus grading system.
Tips for prospective students decide where you are going to college by the start of your senior year. i regret not deciding until much later.
Academic Rigor i am an engineering student so many of my classes are very difficult to the average college student.
Dorm Life the dorms are excellent. it is nice to have the cafeteria in the same vicinity.
Food and Dining the food is fantastic and always seems to be homemade. i do wish they would change up their menus more.
What to do for fun there are many clubs in wichita. also there are many lakes that are a short drive away.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I have found all of my classes to be challenging and they are requiring me to work really hard and retain a lot of information.
Am enjoying being here The campus is beauitful and I love how easy it is to navigate to where my classes are. I have yet to get lost.
Bang for the buck The cost of tuition reflects the quality of education your getting. The cost of the school isn't outrageous its actually pretty reasonable and your getting a really good quality education for how much your spending.
Tips for prospective students Really look into the major you want to study and make sure you choose the best possible school. WSU has a lot of strong points for many different programs.
Great for these types of students Anyone!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot As I am International student, it really is a new and challenging learning experience as the education system in America is a lot more practical unlike the theory based education system back home.
Am enjoying being here Its great! Great teachers, great friends, fun activities, what more could I ask for.
Bang for the buck It really is a lot more expensive than I feel it should be as an international student pays at least 3 times more than a citizen, so I would not really rate it really good for the amount of money.
Tips for prospective students I would encourage students to go to WSU, They are one of the best in Aerospace Engineering due to the presence of NIAR on campus. Their business school is also in the top league.
Great for these types of students Great for any type of student!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot All of the professors are extremely well informed and can answer any question effortlessly, even if the answer is we don't have one yet.
Bang for the buck This is an excellent University; I've only been to WSU but I have had several friends who went to KU first and then transferred. According to them, the quality of teaching is just as good, if not better, only you pay half as much.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Even though teachers seem to be in their own world....they truly emphasize that they do care about your education. Always ask them for help even though you may think that its not important....ASK! They are always willing to help. Go to the library, tutoring, stay after class (if you have time).
Am enjoying being here There is always something for you to do. Get involved is clubs/organizations....its a great way to meet new people. There are so many different clubs at WSU. Once you are a Shocker....you have to act like a Shocker!
Bang for the buck Scholarships, Scholarships, Scholarships. Once are you are set, dont think that it means to stop looking for scholarships. Even its $200, it could possibly help you pay anything. Make it part of your routine to always check for scholarships.
Tips for prospective students Talk with the students, staff, advisers, teachers, etc... if you ever have any questions. Get to know your teachers, become friends...for you never know if they can help you out after graduating. Time management is an essential factor if you wish to succeed.
Great for these types of students Everyone is welcome to join our Shocker family. Its a great college for anyone who wants to try something new.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I learn new things everyday! Not just in my course work but also about the campus and all the different people and cultures around me!
Am enjoying being here I love being at Wichita State! There are over 200 different organizations you can join, and if you have enough people, you can even start your own! I meet new people every day and am making connections both inside and outside the campus quickly!
Bang for the buck I receive not only a great education for what I pay, but I also (again) make great connections for my future career! WSU sets you up with both an education and opportunities to gain experience in your chosen field.
Tips for prospective students Get involved! I know you hear that in every class, in high school, in college, etc...but its true! I got involved in an organization my first semester on campus and by the end of the year I had two job offers on campus also! Another tip is to stay focused. Especially if you're an incoming freshman; that first year of freedom can be overwhelming and you can lose sight of your goals fast. Don't!! Stay focused and determined and always ask for help!
Great for these types of students Any type of student willing to get an education and make something of themselves!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am planning on getting my BSN here at WSU and found WSU not only has courses in my degree path, but many other classes.
Am enjoying being here It is all about how active you are on campus, whats nice about WSU is you can just go to college by just attending classes and just get by or you can join organizations and have a blast, there are MANY different organizations to join and really make your college experience amazing
Bang for the buck WSU is pretty good but i gave it an average 3. The reasoning is because it is WAY better than going to KU or KState and getting a TON of study loans, WSU is an affordable (2010-2011) $176 in state and this next year i think just south of $200, the reason for the 3 is there are still cheapter colleges (BCCC) but WSU is definately way better... unless you are out of state, i know many out of state students via living in dorm; they pay over $500 per credit, however, they say this is still worth it.
Tips for prospective students Join as many clubs as possible, i know in high school counselers always said join clubs to get close to you college, but you never realize it until you go a semester not investing yourself in the college then the second joinging and having fun.
Great for these types of students anyone willing to go to school... or depending on the professor, you may not even have to do that. i guess there is also growing number of online classes availible too
