Great community. Everyone is friendly you wont ever feel left out.
if you are a commuter like myself you will always find something to do on campus. I love it here.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition is not as bad as i thought it would have been (10,000 a year) comparing to many of the other Universities/colleges. My friends are paying about 30,000 - 50,000 a year for the same exact classes and education.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to become a very active in activities and clubs and also make sure to remember that school always comes first before anything else. Very important.

Great for these types of students

    Am learning a lot

My first semester here and I already know more things than my older sister who is a junior in a different college. I amaze my family by giving them advise on subjects that they never thought I would know.

    Am learning a lot

I've only taken one semester of classes so far, but I haven't felt as though I'm learning as much as I should be.

    Am enjoying being here

I commute 45 minutes each way. That takes a little away from the enjoyability. Residents seem to enjoy it a lot more.

    Bang for the buck

Considering most schools are around $30,000-50,000, paying only about $11,000 a year is a great deal.

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely visit the school first to see if you really like it. And if you have to take the math placement test STUDY for it!

Great for these types of students

    teaching, nursing, business majors

William Paterson has a great staff because a lot of staff members go out of their way in order to help the students. I also like that it is a small campus and it is easy to find your way around. The workload is the right amount for a college student and the grading system is completely fair.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't go to college unless you are really ready to put the effort into it.

    Dorm Life

I don't live on campus but I hear good things.

    Food and Dining

wpunj is probably the best bang for your buck. it truly is the university in your backyard. a great place to start your college career.

    Tips for prospective students

get as much college credits as you can in high school--ap credits, community college credit, etc. you can start off college with some credits in hand and be able to start core classes for your major earlier. plus, this leaves more space and time for a minor or second major, which will always look good on your resume when you graduate.

    Academic Rigor

depending on your major, work can be tough. though, wpunj is a tad bit easier than most other schools in nj. regardless, you should know what your signing up for if you're majoring in biology, for example.

    Food and Dining

sodexho provides the food. enough said. but there is a food court that is always a good alternative to the routine at the dining hall. the food court has burger king and sbarro, to a name a few. there's also a campus restaurant if you feel like getting a little fancy.

i would definitely recommend this school because it is awesome. you have the opportunity to speak to people from all over the world. if you encounter any problems, the school has a great counseling center as well as a health and wellness center right on campus.

    Academic Rigor

the business schools is aacsb accredited which is recognized all over the world. only about 15% of schools in the world have this high standart of academic achievement.

    Dorm Life

since i am a commuter student i cannot say anything about it; however, some of my friends live in the dorms and they are happy with it. there is a shuttle bus that takes the students between the two campuses which makes it very convenient.

    Food and Dining

there is a lot of options for food on campus as well as around the campus. on the main campus we have a sushi place, a burger king, chinese food, and many more options. also, with your student id you can buy food from other places around town with a student discount.

    What to do for fun

we have an arcade right on campus which allows you do have lots of fun with your friends. also, we have a gym, a theater, and a short commute to new york city.

    Bang for the buck

over all, i am very glad that i joined this school because i feel like i really am going to be prepared for the professional life after school. lots of our teachers have been working in their field for many years and can therefore give us many real life examples of the things we are studying.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

one of our buildings is hunted by a ghost.

Great for these types of students

the school is perfect for everyone. we have a completly new sience center, the music depatment is also amazing, and the business school which is on a seperate campus (only 10min away from the main campus) is build like a corporate center. also, we have a sales major which hardly no school has that allows you to get filmed while conducting a sales meeting; therefore, you can see yourself afterwards and learn from your mistakes.

william paterson provides an excellent, well rounded education for the price. the professors are extremely knowledgable in their fields, and most classes are small enough so you can get personalized attention from them. i cannot speak on the rigor of general education courses because i did not take them there, but courses in my major (spanish, english lit, latin american studies) were challenging and i have learned a lot.

    Tips for prospective students

keep your priorities straight; the type of work you will have varies depending on your major. if you keep your grades up you have the opportunity to apply and receive scholarships each year. don't procrastinate especially with upper level courses. finally, ask questions in class and be an active learner; a lot of the time professors present information to you, but you have to be the one to synthesize it, understand it, and learn something.

    Academic Rigor

what is difficult and what is not is very subjective and different for every student. i find my courses to be difficult and very reading and writing intensive (majors in the humanities tend to be that way). if you fall behind you will be in trouble no matter what. certain majors such as nursing, biology, and communication disorders tend to be extremely rigorous from what i have heard, but nonetheless excellent programs.

    Dorm Life

i am a resident student, and the only complaint i have about this university is that there really is not much dorm life. it is a commuter school, and those who do live on campus often go home on the weekends. there are some good local places to eat in the area and two bars/clubs once you become of age, but university programming on the weekends is lacking tremendously.

    Food and Dining

the dining hall food is not great; the student center has some better options but none that are particularly healthy. when you sign up for a meal plan you get a certain amount pioneer express dollars loaded on your student id card (depending on the meal plan you select), and many off campus dining locations accept it. you can add money to it throughout the semester park wayne diner on hamburg turnpike has excellent food and good prices for the amount and quality.

    Bang for the buck

you will get a great education for a fraction of what other universities cost. if you study hard, utilize the resources available to you (especially the library) and make an effort, you will learn and do very well here.

    Clubs and Activities

this depends on the person and how far you are willing to go to get involved in university clubs and activities. there are many clubs that cater to various majors, cultures, and interests. it can be difficult finding out about events on campus as the only system that seems to be used are paper flyers (hence, if you don't see a flyer for a particular event or you overlook something, you will miss out on a lot of things going on). joining a club is the best way to get involved because they all have their own programs and events, so you are more likely to be included that way and aware of what is going on. this is the type of campus where you need to get involved or you will miss out; go to the campus activities office in the student center third floor to find out about types of clubs and get into contact with officers about meeting dates and times.

    Campus Safety

the campus is very safe, but as with any campus, it is always better to walk with a group if you are going out a night. university police are always available and respond to problems quickly, and there is a student patrol group that walks around at night, goes in the dorms and has direct communication with the police if anything should happen. if you live on campus, there is someone sitting at the front desk 24 hours a day to verify students id cards and sign guests in.

try to do your best on the sat's. if your a.commuter, plan on leaving home early to find parking. if you can, it would probably be easier to stay on campus.

    Academic Rigor

with any major there comes difficulties. be prepared to work hard for your grades. make sure you keep in contact with your advisor. they are definitely a big help.

    Dorm Life

all of the dorms are pretty decent. the rooms are organized into suites, which means you and your roomate would share a bathroom with two other people. the dorms are also co-ed. if your 21 and over there separate buildings for you to stay in with different rules.

    Food and Dining

the dinning hall wayne hall, has its good day and bad days. the best option there is the breakfast which is served all day. the downside to the dinning hall is it closes at 7pm. there is a food court that has sbarro, burger king, asian express, and quiznos.

    What to do for fun

there's many activities to do on campus. there's two gym areas. there's different clubs and groups you could join. there's usually shows going on in the performing arts center. there's usually always something going on on campus.

    Campus Safety

    Am learning a lot

This school has some great teachers and I learned a lot. My only concern is that my schedule for my freshman year was really hard.

    Am enjoying being here

Freshman year is a year to get used to college life, but they gave me 5 classes, 2 of which required labs, so i could not take i break. I was constantly studying and barely slept since i was not used to my new environment yet, and its hard getting used to something that you are bombarded with.

    Bang for the buck

It is a great school and they provide really great programs. The school is not all that expensive compared to others, and it does helps teach the same if not better then some even more expensive schools.

    Tips for prospective students

First off this school when it comes to those who want to live on campus, try to get into the high mountains, because the overlook buildings are not the best. Also it is a really big commuter school so there is not too much to do on the weekends.
