    Am learning a lot

so far i have only taken core classes but they were very useful to my major. The college will not put you in classes you don't need.

    Am enjoying being here

There are always so many activities to do on campus and there is a few things to do around campus.

    Bang for the buck

This is a reasonable affordable college that has so much to offer.

    Am learning a lot

I have learned so much in my first three semesters here. The classes are generally small, so there is great professor/student ratio's. They are amusing and easy to get along with and are always willing to help. And the Learning Resource Center is always available if you are ever in need of extra assistance.

    Am enjoying being here

There is always something to do around campus. Concerts, Relay for Life, club sports, collegiate sports, a brand new, amazing workout center complete with rock climbing wall. Not to mention the fraternities and sororities which are always doing something.

    Bang for the buck

You are not paying a lot to be here but you are definately getting your monies worth. It's a wonderful learning environment and you are sure to have a blast.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure your work comes first, and you will be just fine. You shouldn't be here if you're not serious.

Great for these types of students

Anybody that likes a small but serious atmosphere.

    Will learn a lot

I hear fantastic reviews of York's academic standing. Small class sizes make it easy for students to ask questions and really form a relationship with their professors. Unlike many colleges, I won't be just a number at York; professors will know my name.

    Will enjoy being here

So many student activities were described to me during my visit. The athletics/intramurals sounded like so much fun! Even the gym was amazing. They have a fitness center, racquetball courts, basketball courts, and even a rock-climbing wall!
Outdoor activities flourish on campus. The beautiful landscaping makes it easy for students to host activities.

    Bang for the buck

Scholarships galor! York makes it easy to get financial aid. They are a very affordable private college.
The only aspect I would complain about is the untimely fashion in which financial aid returns phone calls. After I met with the financial aid office [on a Tuesday], I was told to call on Friday to make sure everything was in check. I called once in the morning and again in the afternoon: no answer. They didn't get back to me until I called again on Tuesday (after leaving a message on Monday). I understand that colleges are busy, especially at this time of year, but they should make haste when they request that you call.

    Tips for prospective students

Visit the campus! It's absolutely beautiful, and I know you'll fall in love with it as quickly as I did.

Great for these types of students

Anyone would easily fit in at York. The student population was so friendly, something I really didn't find at the other colleges I visited. Everyone greeted me; I would highly recommend considering York College of Pennsylvania in your college search.

The class sizes are small which I think is great because it gives you a chance to form a bond with the professor and they know who their students are and the teachers really want to help their students do well.

    Am enjoying being here

There's so much to do on campus, there's a lot of clubs to get involved in and CAB always has an event to go to on campus. The surrounding area offers a lot of different qualities, some areas have a city feel, while others have a small town suburban feel, so there's different variations of areas surrounding campus. The school is also an hour from Baltimore, MD and an hour from Hersey, PA.

    Bang for the buck

The education I am receiving here is excellent, York College was ranked number 13 among the best regional colleges in the North by U.S News 2011 Best College's Edition. For a private college, York is extremely affordable.

    Tips for prospective students

Come visit the campus, and ask questions of the students at while on the tour to get a feel of how others feel about the school.

Great for these types of students

York has an excellent chem/science program.

I'm a business major and I think the program is great and the professors really know what they're talking about and they enjoy helping their students.

York is known for their Nursing program. I mainly came here because of that. I know that York isn't known for most other programs and they do not have some of the strongest programs out there. As far as nursing and engineering go, this is where to attend. If you want a good, in depth education to prepare you for working in a hospital, this is where you want to go.

    Am enjoying being here

As it is with a lot of colleges, there are not a lot of things to do on the weekends. York does VERY well at providing different trips and activities on the weekend. We also have a lot of things to do around the school. Every week there is a new movie that we get to see before it comes out on dvd and we have a lot of reality show contestants come to host entertainment.

    Bang for the buck

As far as nursing goes, YCP is worth the money. I don't know if I would suggest a person to come here and pay all of this money if it is possible to get a similar degree at a state school. It also depends on what you want. This is a great smaller school. I believe that it is worth the money because I love the small classes and the education.

    Tips for prospective students

Come visit York! Get to know what is around the city. There are many different things to do here, you just have to find them. My friends and I found a great $2 movie theater. As college students, we don't have much money to go out. This is just one thing that we let other people know about. But the city is nice, other than the bad parts. Yes, there is crime. There's crime in every city. Don't let that deter you. Visit York and see what everything is about!

With the core classes, York offers you an opportunity to try new things and offers a wide variety of all types of classes. For the classes required for a major there are plenty of advisors you can go talk to with any questions and get the most out of your education.

    Am enjoying being here

There are so many opportunities at York, you can join a sorority or fraternity and even if that’s not for you there are clubs and other activities to get into. There are plenty of things to do surrounding the college such as the mall or local hot spots. Your defiantly meet a lot of new people and since other students at York have friendly attitudes, it is easy to do.

    Bang for the buck

Not the most expensive school and not the cheapest, but your definitely getting your money’s worth by going here. And for those students who are doing it on their own it is a great price.

Because the size of the classes are small, each Professor will sit down with you (and the class) and go through the material. The Professors everyday goal is to have their students leave the classroom, understanding the material. If one is still unable to grasp the material learned, the the Professors work a flexible schedule to help you.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved, being in a club or sport is a great stress reliever

    Academic Rigor

When you go to a private school, you already know the classes will be of value but at York this is an understatement. The professors challenge you to such an extent if you didn't know any better you'd swear York is an ivy league school.

    Food and Dining

The food is not that bad, but it always comes back to bite you no matter what you eat. There are number of options if you do not want to eat in the dinning hall

    What to do for fun

There are a good number of things to do around campus, but for me the most fun you will have is making new friends and spending time with them

    Bang for the buck

I really love it at YCP. The people and teachers are really nice and the campus is absolutely beautiful. I love that it is a small school because there is always a familiar face nearby.

    Tips for prospective students

If you don't get along with someone, don't let it bother you too much. Why let one sour personality ruin your college experience?

    Academic Rigor

This is only my first year and I don't have too much to compare it to, but I felt that the classes were just challenging enough to put my mind to work with out making my really stressed.

    Dorm Life

Typical freshman dorms if I do say so myself. They train their RAs really well, so we always had fun and any situations were dealt with relatively fast.

    Food and Dining

The food isn't exactly 5 star gourmet, but it was still pretty good. The cafeterias are buffet style and there are several cafe's around campus.

    What to do for fun

There is always something to do on the weekends. We have a comedian or singer almost every Friday but there's also fun special things like laser tag, magicians, and our Spring Concert which featured Dev and Cobra Starship this year.
There's also a bran new Athletic Complex with an amazingly fun rock wall. Zumba, Yoga, and Turbo Fusion are offered for free on a weekly basis too.

    Bang for the buck

For the amount of money that YCP costs, I'd definitely say, you get your money's worth.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

We have a big green rock right in front of our student union which all of the frats and sorority houses sign in white paint before the end of the year.

Great for these types of students

its Great for small town students or those with that small town personality. If you don't like little schools, I wouldn't suggest it.

    Clubs and Activities

There is a wide variety of clubs on campus. There are clubs for majors, causes, religions, and just for fun. They have something for everyone's desires. We also have a wide variety of sports, but no football team. We like to say undefeated since 1787 because we've never had one at all.

York College offers outstanding education and an abundance of services to it's students.
York College is very influential to it's surrounding community.

    Tips for prospective students

Do not procrastinate when looking to further your education. The sooner you look into colleges/ Tech schools, the better. There is a lot more that goes into choosing a college than it seems.

    Academic Rigor

Teachers at York College display understanding towards the students, while maintaining strict learning objectives.

    Dorm Life

    I live off campus.

    Food and Dining

There are multiple dining locations in and around York College. On campus they have numerouse vending machines, a snack store in the bookstore, a buffet style diner, a coffee shop (with deli and bakery goods), a sandwhich shop, and more. That is just on campus. There are nearby dining options off campus as well.

    Bang for the buck

I just transferred to York, and while tuition is much more than at the community college I transferred from, York College offers numerous services that community college did not. You really get a quality education and a quality learning experience at York College.

Great for these types of students

York College has many professors who are willing to help their students. The college campus is beautiful and well-kept. As a commuter, the parking situation needs some work (not enough spots).

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved early on, and get to know your professors. They are extremely helpful if they can see you're trying your hardest.

    Academic Rigor

Some majors require a lot of work to graduate; for example, Nursing and Biology are great programs at York.

    Dorm Life

Because the campus is so small, the dorm life is more strict and the housing is smaller than at some larger schools.

    Food and Dining

The food here is only good when the parents come to visit!

    What to do for fun

York City is full of opportunities; the campus activities board does a good job of advertising all York has to offer (on and off campus).

    Bang for the buck

For a private college, York is fairly inexpensive.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

On graduation day, the graduates sign their names on the famous rock in front of the bookstore.

    Campus Safety

York has a strong campus safety force, with many students in-training (Criminal Justice majors). Because York is a dry campus, the force is very strict and spread out.

York College of Pennsylvania is a wonderful small college. Classes are taught by professors who truly care about their students, in small settings. The people at YCP are always friendly.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved in campus activities. A lot of people will complain that there's nothing to do over the weekend, but there's tons of clubs that you can join! It'll keep you from partying and then getting citing, and campus security is extremely strict about that type of thing. Plus, being in clubs will connect you to a lot of really great people.

    Academic Rigor

Classes are academically challenging, but nothing that can't be handled. For every really difficult professor you have, there is a more relaxed one that will balance out your coursework. Professors are always willing to help students in need.

    Dorm Life

The freshman dorms are terrible, unless you can get into Northside Commons. I've found the staff in charge of the dorms to be very unorganized, and extremely unmotivated in helping students with problems. A lot of issues are shoved onto the RAs, and they only have so much power, although they are fantastic. Quiet hours are universally ignored.

    Food and Dining

It's always hit or miss with the main dinning hall. Some days food can be really fantastic, especially on their theme nights, although a lot of the time it's a struggle to find decent food. The extra dinning areas, such as Pura Vida and Spart's Den, have excellent food, although you have to pay out of pocket or with dinning points.

    What to do for fun

Tons! I'm involved in several clubs that provide a great chunk of time. The YCP Players put on 6-8 productions a year, and they're all fantastic. CAB always has something going on, such as movie nights, bingo, free singers or comedians, make your own novelties, and so much more! If you're ever sitting at your dorm alone thinking there's nothing to do.... Then you just need to look harder.

    Bang for the buck

This school is great! It's pretty inexpensive, and the education that you're getting is amazing. The faculty and their connections are fantastic, and there's a really good career services that will help you prepare for the real world. The Student Senate and CAB really does a lot for the students.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Every year after graduation, the senior paint the rock with their names. Their names stay on the rock until the next commencement, where they are painted over. It's really humbling to know that your name will forever live on at the college, below and above all the students that existed before you!

Also, all freshman experience a mock commencement during orientation. You really get a feel for the campus and what you're working for.

Spartonpalozza is giant school spirit type of thing at the gym. It's a lot of fun, and a great time to spend with friends.

Great for these types of students

Students who want more. Students who are unafraid to work for what they want, but are also looking for a close relationship with professors and peers. Anyone who wants a smaller college with small class sizes will adore York.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many clubs to join! There's literally a club for everyone on campus, and those who can't find anything are free to start their own. Clubs have really played a huge part in my year thus far, and most clubs are really active about encouraging member bonding and helping the community.

    Greek Life

Greek life is really small on campus. You don't need to join a frat or sorority to have a good social life, but it does make you more connected. I have found that the Greek organizations at YCP does have some of the nicest people in them.

    Campus Safety

Campus safety patrols a lot, and is really good at catching people breaking the law. However, because the college is so close to York City there is a bit of crime. The college is always extremely diligent in addressing these issues, and York City isn't nearly as bad as a lot of other cities are. My biggest gripe is the time delay between an incident occurring and the timely warning that is sent out to students.

york college is a well organized, beautiful school with plenty of helpful people. the organized layout of campus makes it easy for you to find your way around to your fun, but challenging classes. the college overall is recognized as being a great school for all programs, especially the nursing and education programs that are offered at york college.

    Tips for prospective students

come prepared. york college is not the easiest college. it has a very good reputation to uphold. all colleges are a wake up call for even the best students coming from high school. and york college does not disappoint. personally, i never had to study for high school and i was a straight a student- distinguished honor roll every time. i knew i would have to study for college, but it still was a wake up call. you have to be committed to your education. if you are - you will do great at york college.

    Academic Rigor

academics at york college of pa are hard enough that you aren't sleeping through class, but easy enough that if you want to succeed, ask for help and study- you will do great. they challenge you, while keeping in mind that you do have a life, sometimes work, and sometimes a drive to get there. the teachers are very free to do what they want so the level of difficulty, length of class, grading system, and type of class is up to the professor. this makes class much more interesting than having all your professors do the same thing in all of your classes. all of the teachers are there for you. if you need help and ask.. they will help you.

    Dorm Life

i, myself did not stay in a dorm. my friends have told me that it got some getting used to, but they enjoy it. what i can tell you is about commuting. because york college is mostly a resident school, they do not close or have delays a lot. rarely ever actually. this makes it hard for commuters because in the winter months, if snow occurs, all the schools in the area may be closed while york college doesn't even have a delay. some of the teachers will be understanding, but the school itself will not.

    Food and Dining

there is some kind of food place in almost all of the buildings. this makes it nice because no matter where you are, you can grab a snack before class. the food itself is pretty good. johnson dining hall is a good place to go if you are really hungry. all you can eat for about $9.00 without a meal deal which most residents will get. the smaller places found around campus are good places to grab a warm coffee or hot chocolate on those cold days and an energy drink on your slow groggy days. each place will have some of the same items while keeping the variety between them. the food at these smaller places are great. bagels, fajitas, donuts, cookies, fruit cups, muffins, salads, wraps and chip bags are some of the items you will find throughout campus. these little stop and go places, all have seating if you wish to stay and good prices for what you get. overall very good variety, quality and value.

    What to do for fun

there is always stuff to do. you are constantly getting emails about things coming up, events planned, seminars, lectures, games, matches, meets, musical concerts, high regarded people coming to give presentations of all fields, dances, career fairs, carnivals, and even some concerts. cab (campus activities board) does a lot to give a variety of things to do while on campus. flyers are posted in all of the buildings, the website for york college lists the upcoming events and york will email you of things you may be interested in according to what major you have declared.

    Bang for the buck

york college is relatively low. last year (2011) they had to increase the price from around $14,000 to mid $15,000 a year. they were not to happy to do this and if i remember correctly - they apologized for increase in tuition. for as good standing as york college is i honestly cant believe their low rate. fantastic teachers, constantly improving grounds, and great programs for about 15 a year? i consider that a really good deal. i have no problem putting out that money for an education from york college.

    Campus Safety

campus safety is always sending out incident alerts on your my ycp home page. they let you know when, where, and what exactly happened. they want you to be informed of what is going on around you. they also provide the option of allowing them to alert you if something terrible happens. you give them your phone number and they will text you if anything should happen. they will test out the emergency text system throughout the year and will let you know that you should be expecting a text on your ycp. this way you can feel assured that you will always know if there is an emergency or problem in your area.
