Recipient(s): Varies Amount: Varies Class Standing: Sophomore/Junior Established in 2006 by Asian Studies Alumni and Friends of Asian Studies, the endowment provides a margin of excellence by supporting initiatives the Asian Studies Program deems most beneficial to Asian Studies majors. Fundable initiatives include student scholarships, as well as activities such as undergraduate involvement in faculty research, independent student research, and travel support for study abroad opportunities in Asia. In making its selection, the Asian Studies Program will consider students who: A. Are full time undergraduate students at SUNY New Paltz; B. Are majoring in Asian Studies with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher; C. Have completed at least one year of Chinese or Japanese language. Additional requirements: A. Three recommendation letters - one must be from a Chinese or Japanese language instructor; one must be from another Asian Studies faculty member. B. Two page essay on intended uses of the award.
