The University of West Georgia seeks to achieve preeminence in providing educational excellence in a personal environment through an intellectually stimulating and supportive community for its students, faculty, and staff.
Each year, UWG awards several scholarships for students with outstanding academic credentials. These awards are for $3,000 - $4500 per year and are renewable for up to three additional years.
In order to be considered for these scholarships, students must apply and be accepted for admission to the University by the scholarship deadline of February 1, 2008.
In addition, students must be accepted to the Honors College. To be accepted into UWG’s Honors College, a student must meet two of the three following criteria: A student must have at least: 1) 3.5 HS GPA (as calculated by the Office of Admissions), 2) 610 Verbal SAT (27 ACT English), or 3)1200 SAT Composite (26 ACT). To be competitive for this scholarship, students will have a freshman index of 3350-3400, and a SAT (Critical Reading and Math only) of at least 1300.
The students who are most competitive for this scholarship will have near or above a 4.0 GPA. The Freshman Index is calculated as follows:
SAT: Freshman Index = (Academic High School GPA x 500) + total SAT
ACT: Freshman Index = (Academic High School GPA x 500) + (ACT Composite x 42) + 88
Students must be accepted for admission by February 1, 2008.
Students accepted to UWG who meet these criteria (taken from their admissions application-no separate application for the scholarship is necessary), will be invited to campus to interview with Honors College staff and faculty. Extracurricular activities, AP/Joint enrollment courses, and leadership roles will also be a part of the final selection of candidates and award recipients.
Students must be accepted for admission to be eligible for these awards.
