Jay Linder was a graduate of Alva High School, and a freshman at Northwestern at the time of his untimely death. Jay was an outstanding high school athlete and a bright prospect for the Ranger Baseball Team. In addition to his athletic talents, Jay worked equally hard on the development of his scholastic ability and was an active student leader. The award was established by his family and friends to perpetuate his memory. The recipient must be an upperclassman enrolled in the field of Law Enforcement or Teacher Education. Preference will be given to the applicant who participates in varsity athletics and demonstrates leadership in campus organizations.
