Kennecott Land Sustainable Community Scholarship

Scholarship Description
The scholarship is valued up to $5,000. Tuition is $ 2,790 for a six-month term. The scholarship will be credited to your account at the rate of $1,000 per six-month term, leaving a balance of $1,790. Although WGU's competency-based model allows students to complete the requirements of a master's degree in less than two and a half years, the scholarship awards are based on a reasonable experience of five six-month terms to complete the program. Scholarships are awarded through the generosity of Kennecott Land Corporation. Individuals interested in one of the following master's degrees are eligible: M.A. in Mathematics Education, M.A. in Science Education, M.A. in English Language Learning, M.Ed. in Instructional Design, M.Ed. in Learning and Technology, M.Ed. in Measurement and Evaluation, M.S. in Special Education (PK-12), or M.S. in Educational Leadership. * Teachers currently teaching in the following South Jordan, Utah schools: o Daybreak Elementary o Elk Meadows Elementary o Jordan Ridge Elementary o Monte Vista Elementary o South Jordan Elementary o Welby Elementary o Elk Ridge Middle School o South Jordan Middle School o Bingham High School * Must continue teaching at a "qualified school" for the duration of their coursework at WGU. If a scholarship awardee leaves the "qualified school," the individual will lose the remainder of the scholarship. * Submit a written essay on "What is a sustainable community?" (Essay will be requested only of scholarship finalists and submitted later.) * Submit official transcripts of all prior college work. * Interview with a WGU Enrollment Counselor prior to the award decision. * The scholarship recipient must read the WGU Student Handbook and agree to and understand the tuition and refund policies.
